Like any other machine, the human brain also needs an energy boost, especially in the morning. Do you ever get frustrated when you know your brain can perform better but for some reason it gets lazy right in the middle of the work day? If you hate being stuck, here are some suggestions on how to kick-start your brain and make yourself more productive.

  1. Caffeine

Caffeine may have some disadvantages but when it comes improving your brain performance, you will find that it gives you a real boost, stimulates your body and speeds up your heart rate. If you are afraid of the effect coffee may have on your health, try drinking green tea. It still has caffeine in it, but it will also provide your body with antioxidants.

  2. Breathing

When feeling stuck or overwhelmed working on an important task, simply take a minute to go outside for a break and breathe deeply. Inhale and exhale for a couple of minutes - your brain needs oxygen to function. Fresh air and sunlight will definitely help you boost your mental performance and your mood.

  3. Power nap

Some people like to use the lunch break to take a short nap. It helps them feel more awake and well-rested. Sometimes though these naps can have the opposite effect and make you feel even more tired and sleepy during important meetings, so be careful and do not use the snooze button once your alarm goes off.

  4. Food and drinks

Do not forget that your brain needs carbs and water the same way your body does. There is no need of a heavy meal, something small like a fruit, a banana for example, can be sufficient and supply you with the necessary carbs, minerals and vitamins to keep you going. Try eating something high in carbs an hour or so before your most unproductive time of the day and you will see how your work performance will jump through the roof!
